The Mad Black Woman Show Act 2

Live Performance

May 2025

The Mad Black Woman show is a live improv show mocking the caricatures often portrayed in the media of Black Women.

Act 2 is me portraying three caricatures of Black Womanhood in media. Shaquanna, Anna Mae, and Assata capture the box Black women are put in through systemic bias and limited representation.

Improv movement allows for each live show to be different and takes into the value of memory.

The act of remembering is an extension of my storytelling method that is rooted in ancestral oral traditions of passing along information.

The Things We Leave Behind

Installation

May 2025

Its what we things we leave behind that shapes us. Through motion fueled by transitions, change, and growth, we realize everything can’t be brought with us. What we can’t take gets disregarded, sentimental items are now nothing but our waste. In a world consumed by consumption, drowning in micro-plastics, our lives seep out into streets and wash up on sea shores. In the mixed material installation, water is represented by a shower curtain. This material that the common person interacts with frequently is a plastic lint roller collecting our dirt and providing a sense of safety during our intimate times. Attached to this curtain are items disregarded in London and Toronto, two major cities where waste surrounds us, but also separates us.

The Mad Black Woman Show Act 1

Live Performance

February 2025

The Mad Black Woman show is a live improv show mocking the caricatures often portrayed in the media of Black Women.

Act 1 features me in a bird costume eating a piece of bread alluding to my Unit 1 performance piece “black bird”.

The performance includes a series of gestures and props to expand the story of black bird and its inspirations.

Improv movement allows for each live show to be different and takes into the value of memory. Accompanying the movement is Solange’s Cranez in The Sky.

The act of remembering is an extension of my storytelling method that is rooted in ancestral oral traditions of passing along information.
